The Telecomm Porting Wars!

By Posted on 6 No tags 0

The new ‘porting’ ability, i.e. ability for mobile phone users to change service lines without changing their phone numbers has given Birth to The Telecomm Wars!: MTN attacks Etisalat, Airtel attacks Mtn, what next?
In what should become a classic caste study for marketing students everywhere, MTN took a shot at Etisalat with their ad featuring Saka, the good man who had formerly been in a lot of Etisalat ads.

To alert mobile phone users over the new ‘porting’ ability, they released an ad showing a joyful, exuberant and quite enthusiastic Saka singing about how he “don port oh” and has “upgraded”. Then he does the ‘kirikaka’ dance move
[Watch The MTN “I don port” video on youTube or google.

Days later, Airtel dropped their own Porting advert. It shows a frustrated man, moving out of a falling-apart YELLOW building, into a new Red edifice and looking quite pleased afterward. Then, just so you don’t miss the point, he takes his house No (3) along with him.

And this Picture from today’s paper reveals that MTN “is not smiling”
Whatever they do, in the end we just want “we” the customers to be on the benefiting end. We don taya to dey find service!

On the other hand! Glo has announced new additions to their already burgeoning repertoire of brand ambassadors. Naeto C, our very own M.I Abaga, Omawumi, Lynxxx, Waje and Bez Idakula were at the Glo office yesterday to pick up “Goody bags”.

Lols…….I agree and my current network should watch out as it is I’m not finding this robbery amusing.
Seriously though,I think its good thing ‘cos the treat of losing customers will make these servers put their acts together.

Lol! “Robbery” indeed. True talk tho, Mtn has already lost a lot of customers and will loose more in the nearest future if they don’t “put their acts together”.
